Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum

In 2006, the home of Joe Jackson was dismantled, moved three miles, and reassembled on Field Street in the historic West End of Greenville, SC. In July 2007, the house was deeded to the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum and Baseball Library. The not-for-profit museum will display records, artifacts, photographs, film and other items of interest associated with the historic life and baseball career of Shoeless Joe Jackson. A book collection related to baseball and its role in American culture will be available to researchers whose scholarship could benefit from the use of the texts that are being collected. Donations of books have been made by baseball enthusiasts from across America.
The new house number is 356, a reminder that Joe’s lifetime batting average was .356, the third highest in baseball history after Ty Cobb and Rogers Hornsby.
On June 21, 2008, fans will celebrate the dedication of a museum located in the house in which Joe Jackson lived and died. This summer also marks the 120th anniversary of Joe's birth; the 100th anniversary of Joe's marriage to Kathryn Wynn ("Miss Kate"); the 100th anniversary of the game during which Joe was tagged with the nickname “Shoeless;” and the 100th anniversary of Joe’s first professional baseball contract. Looking out the living room window from inside Shoeless Joe’s home, your first thought might be the sheer irony of it all.
The Jackson house is small, but it has a big story to tell.
